Chillaxing
May 27, 2024
It’s been a while! I missed you! We were chillaxing in the (mostly) sunny Florida panhandle. It was a rejuvenating time with family and some sand-between-the-toes fun!
That brings me to my point today...recovery.
We all need it.
But, we usually wait until it’s too late.
I don’t usually like using analogies that compare humans to vehicles, but here I go anyway.
Isn’t the best time to fill up the gas tank before you run out? How cumbersome and costly would it be if you were always driving your car until it runs out of gas, getting it towed to a gas station, filling it up and then going about your way. If you just fill up before the tank runs dry, the process will be quick, painless and less costly.
Here’s the truth. While on vacay it took me a few days to disconnect and start to relax. Arriving in Florida, my tank was dry and I had been pushing it down the road a little too long. By the time I was relaxing, it was almost time to come home. In the moment, it was aggravating, it felt like wasted time.
I was wrong.
It was a learning moment. Isn’t that what life is about? Learning.
What I can do now is to invite in my old friend “awareness” and start picking up on the symptoms of “I needa break!”
Here’s the fun part, you don’t have to plan a vacation away from home in order to disconnect and recharge. You could start meditating, stepping away from your desk for some fresh air, canceling an appointment, saying “no”, reading a book. So many things!
Doing something each day to fill your tank sounds like a pretty good daily action.
What can you do to fill your tank?
Hit reply and let me know. I love hearing what you have to say and I reply back to every single response ๐
